It's actually a bit more complex than just making up serial's it would cost a hell of a lot more money to manufacture carts that are all unique, this even applies to PC games, the only difference is that PC. Games are bundled with a unique code, the CD has no idea what this code is, that just the game and is the same on every disk made they just have a algorithm that will be able to tell if the code that you type in is at least correct for the game, once you connect to the internet it verifies that the code is legit and hasn't been used before then it ties it to your account or computer

This is the 3DS, not the PC. Do you know the kind of PR hell that Nintendo will go through if they make it so that borrowed/rented/second-hand 3DS games were unable to go online just because they wanted to fight piracy?

Generating unique serials is easy. But what are you gonna do with those unique serials? Once the code's entered in, the game with that code will be able to go online, meaning any copies of it would too. The only way serials could work is if they were tied to consoles, and that would create the PR hell I mentioned earlier.
There's a very easy way, actually. Give every cartridge an individual serial. If you see the same serial number connected twice at the same time, permaban that serial. The only legit user who would get hit would be the one who dumped the ROM.

Yeah but what happens once this happens enough times? Nintendo gets harassed by people who bought second hand games and are banned, right now it's only groups dumping but soon it will be any tom dick or Harry with a gateway card, I very much doubt this is how it's working.......regardless we will find out soon enough that the unique card theory is BS as soon as the cart dumping feature is released and the dumps are identical

Wat.

Think about what you just said and refer it to what arras said. 2 games online at the same time = ban. Second hand game still only means one at a time hencce not banned. Dumping means everyone is using the same rom attempting to go online = ban. You completely misunderstood what arras said.

It's most likely a unique card though we're not sure how it is unique.

I believe Mario Kart 7 is one of few (or only?) game that supports offline local multiplayer via ad-hoc wifi. Has anyone tried that with the Gateway? Then set up some sort of KALI-like system to make local multiplayer work over the Internet...

Mario tennis open does have that option too.

actually if the question is so noob the answer should be quite obvious.
And as far as i know no technically convincing approach has been given in online multiplayer games so far.

Why online multiplayer works in GW fm 1.0 flawlessly in multiple consoles with roms from the same game.
Is that true?

It works with Gateway. But it works by connecting directly to the 3DS systems, not by wi-fi to your router. I don't think they'll be anyway to emulate it to play with others online.

As it was mentioned before, the games don't have to be unique for verification purposes - the console already has unique sets of various keys and a unique Friend Code, nowadays also tied to a NNID. Manufacturing unique carts for games would make the process pretty convoluted. ;)

More likely,it's easier for Nintendo to do what Sony already doing with some of Vita games(Online pass activation code included in game's box)
instead of unique SN for each cart.
in fact the new 3DS rhythm game (Daigasso Band Brothers P) has only 4 songs on cart, you have to redeem the rest of 100 songs using the code included in the box,it's more profitable for them using smaller size cartridge and no way to resell it.
Probably they well do the same for SSB since it's the biggest 3DS game this year

If they plan on releasing DLC for it (and with that kind of a franchise it's practically a given) they'll just release it on SLC-NAND like Animal Crossing. I don't think Nintendo wants to deal with any Online Passes, even Sony is easing their policies in that regard simply because this "solution" to the "Used Game Problem" is highly unpopular with their customers - hell, KillZone: Mercenary doesn't even have an Online Pass in Europe and North America, and that was a major release. ;)

i think he ment that somebody is gonna dump the game, it gets banned and then he is gonna sell it. so somebody buys a seconhand game which is already blocked

By serial, do you mean one similar to a CD-key? If you do, then again, either you'd have to enter the code every time you wanna play, or it'd end up being tied to consoles/accounts. If you mean some kind of software-based one, then yeah, I guess that could work, but since that'd be the only part of the ROM changing per cartridge, I imagine it'd be quite easy for hackers to isolate the addresses that carry the serial and change them in the near future.

Ok. To make it simpler for everyone to understand. The current way of thinking there is some sort of serial tied to each individual cartridge.

There are many ways this could be implemented.

Think of downloading an Android app. If you rip it, it wouldn't run other other devices. There is a license verification. A similar implementation might be used in 3ds games with the exception that this license/serial might just be used for online access.

That's been a pipe dream for nearly 8 years now, since the DS first came out. Even though these games are relatively low bandwidth, there is something about expected extremely low latency that has crippled online tunneling.

And in order for license verification to work, it'd have to be tied to an account and/or a console. A license usable across all consoles and accounts is pointless. A license limited to one account and/or console ruins the secondhand market.

Not if the license is tied to each physical cartridge. In doing so they can prevent what happened in the ds scene whole at the same time preserving the second hand market.
