So i found out my 3ds has a push release slot and ive been pulling out the micro SD card all these years. just today i was pushing down on an SD card on my phone waiting for a *click sound but it turns out it wasn't a push release, hopefully i didn't damage it .. so is there an easy way to tell the difference i feel like im gonna be making this mistake all my life.

If it still read fine lead it alone, stop trying to break it. When you used the SD card the first you should already know it is push release

Default to pushing from now on. A pull type reader will have a bump stop at the back that won't harm the card or reader. You'll know by feel it's pull type when the card doesn't move or have any give.

By muscle memory, you'll know which is push or pull for individual devices.

you know that little micro sd icon on the slot, i thought if it has a arrow pointing down it was a push release which is why i was pushing down on it so hard to hear a click sound but good to know it has that bump stop.
