I was under the impression that the console in the bundle was on 3.0.0, but that the game required the update to 3.0.1

Dont buy Odyssey bundle they are commonly 3.0.1. Try find basic grey or neon units. https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-firmware-by-serial-number.481215/

Basic grey and neon units can commonly also be on latest firmware.

With the bundle you at least know what you are getting.

3.0.1 is required to run the game. The console can come at lower firmwares.

A good and fairly easy bet is to get the Switch + Splatoon 2 bundle. That's at 2.3.0.

In my country there's a bunch. I could get probably 5 of these tomorrow with a bit of travel. I'd buy and ship, but the bundle is 500 USD. Anyway, a ton of these bundles were made and shipped everywhere, and it's guaranteed to be 2.3.

If they released a new Splatoon bundle with updated firmware, you would see new stock in stores, and stores not being sold out. They are mostly sold out.

It can be checked without opening the box, as the serial is visible. I've never heard of any Splatoon 2 bundles not on 2.3.

Game stores also don't open bundles to update them.

If you can get a "new", unopened Splatoon 2 bundle, that's not been returned, that's virtually 100% sure.
