Hardware PSP Phat D-Pad fix?

Hey guys, I've seen the old (10 year old threads) posts regarding a ufighterx mod to make the d-pad diagonals more responsive, but it seems the OP's site, along with all the links are dead.

Is there any update (e.g. retrofitting a newer PSP revision d-pad, etc.) to resolving the poor diagonal response from the original PSP d-pad? Many thanks.

edit - its a PSP1001 model.

OK, i just hacked it up and DIYed it... took some thin window insulator with adhesive, cut it into tiny squares, put one on each direction, voila, huge improvement. Not quite as good as an SNES gamepad, but definitely a HUGE improvement.
