Hacking PSP 1001

What are the main differences between a psp 1000 or psp 1001? I have a friend wanting to sell me the psp 1001 and I want to make sure it is fully hackable like the psp 1000

I'm pretty sure it's just region or something or minor differences. All PSP 1000s, 1001s, etc, should be pretty much the same.
