Lali ho!

I'm trying to watch some movies on my PS4 via a USB keystick. I know the media player works, used it before. But with some files it is ridiculously finnicky. It keeps giving me the 'cannot play media' error message, for files I know work fine on my laptop via VLC.

I understand it's probably a video codec thing or the formatting is wrong. But I'm basically tech illiterate. Can someone explain to me a simple way to convert these files to a format the PS4 will support, ideally in words you'd use to explain it to a six year old with a severe head injury? They're in MP4 already, that used to be good enough, but apparently it has to be a very specific type of MP4 tied up with ribbons and come with free cake for the PS4 to deign it worthy of viewing. Suggestions welcomed.

Also, side note, why do we have a hundred quadrillion types of video file formats when all it does is cause problems like this? Why can't we just have one? One format for video, one for music, one for images. No more of this creating a billion alternatives just to sell me a converter I shouldn't need.

TIA.

Blaze.
