With all this talk about CFW's, I thought I would talk about something different so, I am really excited to see what transpires with turning the PS3 into a Media Center. every console that is out only plays proprietary video formats. Currently the PS3 wont play a .MKV natively unless you setup a server on a PC and trans-code the video or bootleg Linux onto the system. Now that the system is open I would love to see VLC or, a VLC like program made; one that a person could browse a network with and play a file right through the console. This would be reason alone to buy a PS3 for $300, Google TV is running like $300 alone with no blue ray; not to mention most media centers are around $500. How say you?

If this came about, it'd probably be the deciding factor for me finally purchasing a PS3.

It will probably happen sooner or later just be patient. The PS3 has so much untapped potential that has yet to be taken advantage of.

PS3 would be a great media center with xbmc or something.

Ive heard rumors about a media player app with MKV and full subs support in the works, but I have no idea if it's just that, a rumor.
