Hello, i have a SCPH-50004 with a modchip which should be a Prodigy, i am almost sure of it because it used to launch Dev mode by turning it on keeping pressed reset for 3 seconds, than releasing it and pressing again.

I opened the console to replace the CR2032 battery, being careful with the Modchip wires, but now my backups won't boot anymore. I thought that a wire has been disconnected but, after trying a lot of times, i have been able to boot into devolution mode just once (i have ulaunchelf on the Memory card) than never again.

Any other disk readable by the PS2 like the original versions of my backup boots just fine, so i exclude the disc drive.

Could be there any reason why it worked only for one time or is it just dead?

Do you need the modchip? I ask because I would personally switch over to a HDD if practical.

If you do need the modchip, does it have diag LEDs? For something like this I‘d suspect a short or more likely a dodgy solder joint(s).

Yes i need it because original copies are starting to wear out. I really wish i have to not open It again because the flat cables are very delicate. I Just don't understand why it worked Just once. Isn't there another keys combination to call this modchip?

Is it just PS2 games? If so I’d switch to HDD anyway.

Do PS1 imports/backups work?

Unfortunately I’m not finding much info on the chip, is the chip a clone of these?

As for why it worked once, could be the console was moved in a way it temporarily fixed the problem or the chip is starting to go bad and it was a fluke.

there is a guide on the Prodigy chip on yumpu website, although it's in Italian, it's posted on another conversation on this forum too (problem with component cable on a modded PS2 slim). I can't still post links.

looks like it's the only one using the reset button to go into devolution mode. Tried again infinite times to boot from memory card again with no luck. I have not PS1 backups or import games (it's a PAL console) but just one original PS1 game and boots fine. I don't think a copied one will boot anyway.

I've opened it and checked wires with a multimeter but everywhere I put one of its needle on a modchip contact and the other on a chip where are its wires connected says that there is a contact. It's normal or modchip is shorted?
