@JeBobs : if you really plan to get a NA + HDD, stop messing with DVDs. They are several methods to make what you want really easily with a NA + HDD :

1 - you could install an already prepared FHDB image (http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/unofficial-fhdb-1-93-noobie-package-obt-119562/) - if you use this method, make the image install, then run FMCB installer after (FHDB in it is obsolete);

2 - you could also install uLE into your PS2HDD MBR (http://psx-scene.com/forums/f153/softmodding-fat-ps2-hard-disk-drive-[tutorial]-116178/) = you install it, you boot your PS2, and it launches uLE (feel free to install FHDB over uLE after).

Thanks for the tip, that might be what I do instead, that would make sense and more logical. I found an adapter on eBay for $13 and I might buy it, if I knew about the HDD method I would have done that long ago. Brb, gonna buy the adapter.

Yeah, it is, I just got it today, and I'm about to set up my 40gb hdd with it, ready to softmod!

So, I know I'm being a complete noob, but I'm using the 2nd tutorial that Shaolin suggested about uLE on the HDD, and I formatted the drive with winHIIP and used HDDRawCopy to put the image file onto the drive, then I turn off the PC, etc and I change the jumper to Master, then I plug it into the NA, into the PS2, turn it on, and the drive turns on for a bit then shuts off and goes to the main screen, and it doesn't come up in the browser. Any suggestions?

Thanks, that image worked, and now I have Free McBoot installed! But this isn't over yet, FMCB doesn't detect or use my HDD and I don't want to have to use my MC to boot off of. I want to install FHDB, --OLD-- and I tried the image I found (FHDB 1.93) and it doesn't seem to work, even after taking out both memory cards. --OLD--

EDIT: I got it working, thanks everybody! I got all of the tools too, and I'm looking forward to modding stuff on the PS2, and running linux Again I can't thank you all enough for helping me.

Thanks, since I'm new to the PS2 modding scene as a whole, I'll have to see how to get PS2 Linux working and stuff, and I'll also find out what to fill my 40gb drive up with.

Ok, I was playing some original Super Mario Bros with the preloaded NES emulator that was in my FHDB image. I've got to say, using the PS1 controller that doesn't have analog sticks for old console emulation like that is really good.Right now though I'm more concerned with PS2Linux, as there is a LOT of things I could use on that (even with the 32mb ram and 300mhz CPU). It'll all come to me eventually, I'm just staring out and don't know exactly what to do yet.

You didn't give away any of those IIRC.

You can also ship someone your MC so they can do it for you.

Use ESR for PS2 Disc backups and OPL for backups on a hard drive.
