I cant seem to get this to work

1.) used PS1 game, (legend of dragoon greatest hits). Used the compiler, used the game id, and set os to ULE. Set up exploit for memcard.

2.) Used the save converter to make the 202KB XPS file into a .max, I am using AR.

3.) Put the files free_mcboot.elf, iscentral.max, and Boot.elf (the ESR) on the thumbdrive, then transfered the Max file to the memory card.

4.) Put in the PS1 disc, and it played the ps1 game instead of booting up ule or esr...

I am using a slim ps2 if that helps. It is a legit ps2 memory card (which now has corrupt files on it).

ANy help is greatly appreciated.

I messed around with this for two hours trying different methods and none seem to work. If you would, can you add some pictures and step-by-step instructions.

Some items in your tutorial are kind of vague. Like when you say "all must be in the same folder!!!) Do you mean a folder in the root of the USB drive, or in the "install" folder of Free_mcboot?

If you could revamp the tut and maybe include some screenshots of what our usb flashdrives should look like. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

ESR 9b is out now, decreased IOP memroy usage by half (more games will work)
Also if you look towards the end of the release thread @ psx-scene you will find a link to the ESR GUI beta, haven't tried it myself yet.

SMS 2.8 R6 is out.

uLE 4.26 & .27 have recently been released.

See psx-scene.com, they're all linked from the front page ATM, but if not, the SMS topic is under the SMS sub forum of the homebrew (PS2) forum. uLE is in it's own forum, and ESR resides under the FreeVAST sub-forum along with FMCB info.

I got it all working fine, so far GH1 and Bully work. I patched those 2 with the Memento patcher, but GH2 which I patched with the ESR patcher just stays on a pink screen in ESR. I unpatched it (with the ESR patcher) and then tried to patch it with the Memento patcher, but it says "Error in ISO format". Any ideas? (I don't think its corrupted because I can still extract/view the contents in WinRAR)

I'm glad I had a SwapMagic disk and all I had to do was run the installer through a USB flash drive.

mmm. Nope? See unpatching doesn't really work and ESR patcher and Memento patcher are 99% the same (from what I know), so if it doesn't work with ESR patcher it won't work with Memento patcher.

Try patching it with ESR patcher one more time and tell me what it says.
It patched it successfully? Should I burn another copy and see if it works?

Also, another question:
I burnt Ratchet and Clank Going Commando, and in ESR instead of the normal colors filling the entire screen, the colors were almost covered by a black box (pic below), then it just black screens. Normally when it doesn't work it just pink screens, right?

And one last one:
Has anyone gotten Max Payne to work? The Rockstar logo video starts to slow down, the intro is really slow, it goes back to the colors screen from ESR, comes back to the game, then after loading it freezes.

Just to give everyone a update: I hope to rewrite the full guide but I can't and won't if no one looks at my sig.

Write it or don't write it don't try con users into signing up for a PYRAMID/REFERRAL SCAM/SCHEME for a damn freebie guide its not really fair!!!

MEMENTO has a compatibility chart but not updated regular

... although I would say about 90% work ... 99.9% using a proper MEMOR32 card and MEMENTO FIRMWARE along with using the ESR boot

Don't know if it has been discussed here or not, but I got Free MCboot to work yesterday with a codebreaker 10.0 disc I got at Gamestop. I've tried 3 backups and all three work using the new esr.

Except this guide isn't needed, as there are already shit-tons of better guides created by people who don't ask anything in return.
