    Finding that out myself.
Yeah, so I saw my PS2 laying around collecting dust and figured I could replay some games a bit.
Once I tried it out, I remembered the controller port issue I had with it. The PS2 basically doesn't read
my controller (original/regular/black) in the P1 port. It does work with the P2 port though, so it's not an issue with the controller. The bottom button which is between the Start and Select button but below it lights up a red light in the controller so I guess power is at least distributed with the defected P1 port.
So can I fix this on my own or I need to give it to a store or something? Please teach if I can do it on my own please. :3

i am pretty sure that the ports are soldered directly to the motherboard on the slim... i'm sorry =/

So no way at all? Even a professional technician?

You would have to desolder the ports off the motherboard and replace them. I am not really sure where you can find the replacements. Sorry.
