PS1/2 PS2 disc error

I have a slim PS2 and every time I'm in the middle of a game, I get a message saying
"Please insert the [game] disc" or "The [game] disc cannot be read."

Any ideas on how to fix this? I don't want to spend $40 to get it repaired...

(Also, I tried posting this earlier and it screwed up so sorry if it made 2 threads)

Try to clean the laser lens with a dry cotton swab. If that doesn't work then your laser is probably starting to give out.

I played about 10 hours without an error message, but then I got it again. :/ I keep getting it even after cleaning it a 2nd time too.

I decided I'm going to buy a replacement laser:

I have a SCPH 75001 model. Will that work with mine? Or if someone can link me to a better buy than that, I'd appreciate it.
