I have a Wii U I haven't used in several months that's on 5.3.1 (I think?) that had Loadiine running. I understand that 5.5.1 is now hackable (newest firmware). Should I update it to the newest firmware and start the new exploits? I see so many different threads about do this and don't do this and another thread that contradicts what another thread has said. Looks like with have coldboothax now so we can direct boot into CFW from rednand? I would like to do this. If I have to spend a couple bucks on an exploitable NDS game I have no issues with that. I really wish the fist post in the "definitive wii u guide" would be updated since it is still referencing some iosu stuff that seems to be outdated already.

Well, ended up just taking the plunge.

1) Updated to 5.5.1
2) Bought a Kirby game for $5 from eShop
3) Ran exploit to get HBL launched to install Haxchi onto that Kirby game
4) Used this installer to get the otp file and wupy mod https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-a-super-simple-rednand-haxchi-and-wuphax-installer.449512/
5) Copied fw.img to root of SD card, launched Haxchi holding A and it boots sysnand patches.
6) Used https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wii-u-usb-helper-a-small-eshop-for-windows.446565/ to test installation onto USB, worked.
Everything works.

These 6 steps condensed what took hours to piece together.
