I have been using one of these (This is a new account, I can't post links):

amazon.ca/Everydaysource-Black-2-5-inch-External-Enclosure/dp/B00A61DO7E/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1516755130&sr=8-7&keywords=usb+3.0+enclosure+2.5/

non-powered enclosure for homebrew and USB Loader and have had almost no problem with it outside out crashing in some games (pokémon colosseum/gale of darkness) and issues getting this HID controller:

amazon.ca/PowerA-Nintendo-Switch-Wired-Controller/dp/B075DQ13SR/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1516755607&sr=1-1&keywords=zelda+wired+controller/

to work in Nintendont.

I changed it for:

amazon.ca/TROND-D6-Enclosure-Tool-Free-Compatible/dp/B011TX62KS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516755396&sr=8-1&keywords=trond+d6/

this one recently and it did fix the crashing issue but it did nothing for the controller. My controller.ini might not be properly made though. Actually the only game that seem to use the controller.ini properly is a Super Mario 64 rom injected in a Ocarina of Time GC iso.

More importantly, USB Loader GX will not load using this enclosure. Everything else (Nintendont/Hombrew channel) works but USB Loader GX v3.0 r1262 hangs on the "Initializing USB device" or "Waiting for HDD" screens.

I've tried WiiFlow lite and it launches but it wont actually load games.

It's probably because it's also a hub. Just get a plain externally-powered HDD enclosure with no features. No power saving, no encryption, etc.

I had a bad feeling about the USB ports... Well, that was pure wasted money.

Are there any confirmed compatible powered 2.5" enclosures?

SylverReZ @ SylverReZ: Also nice. Never really watched Fallout on Prime, but sounds like a good show. +1
