Homebrew Problems with NES translations

I have patched Fire Emblem & Fire Emblem Gaiden for NES for use with NESDS.
Neither of them work correctly with nesDS, but they work fine on every other emulator I have tried.
What's going on?

nesds added a feature awhile ago for on-the-fly ips patching. just add the clean rom and the ips patch and then allow the emu to patch for you.
