Hardware Problem with ThinkPad NIC

Right, so my sister's new Thinkpad Edge's NIC might be acting up. She can't connect to the internet. I've checked the drivers, cable, router, and modem and can't find a problem with any of that stuff. In addition, every other computer on our home network can connect with no problem.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

The NIC might be broken, indeed.

You didn't state if she can ping other pcs or the router, though. Does the output of ipconfig /all look okay?

If everything seems good but still doesn't work, download a Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Knoppix) and boot from CD to see if the issue is the same. If it works with Linux, the Windows Installation, Registry or drivers might be broken.

If it's still bad, the NIC is broken. Use an USB or expresscard NIC, then.
