i used hack mii to update my wii to 4.1. I got the hdd hooked up and everything is sweet. Problem is that i cant play reg gc games. When i put in say ww zelda a screen comes up says back up gater and says error and shuts down.
PLz note. Im not useig the back up channel.
Im also using a original gc disk.

how can i back up my gc games or am i screwed?

Hmm, you must done something wrong, perhaps overwritten the GC MIOS. What did you do to update your Wii.
By the way, playing GameCube games from USB is not an option at the moment.

You need reinstall your MIOS, download the latest version through Dop-Mii. If you are on 4.3 you could use Dop-Mii Homebrew version, otherwise use regular Dop-Mii

dop mii? isnt that the shop channel?
no, dop mii lets you download and patch ios's and system menu's and install them on your wii, without using a pc. It can be used to fix the shop channel though

Quoted from their Google Code page :

DOP-Mii is a Wii HomeBrew program, originally known as DOP-IOS MOD, that lets the user perform several functions:
  • Install, Upgrade, Downgrade, Patch, or Delete any IOS including STUBs
  • Install, Upgrade, Downgrade, Patch, or Delete the following channels
Shopping Channel
News Channel
Weather Channel
Photo Channel 1.0 & 1.1
Mii Channel
  • Upgrade or Downgrade the System Menu
  • Install an IOS that accepts Fake Signing on a Wii that doesn't have one with a single button press
  • Display your Wii's boot2 information
  • Upgrade your Wii's boot2 if applicable.
  • Receive a detailed report on your Wii's internal workings
  • Supports AHBPROT

gc games only run from back ups not usb as of now it is in the works but after they do get it up and running they will need to make a emulater so you can save your gc games when playing them so for now id just wait till its all up and running as for its in testing mode right now

You can only play them from disc, not from backup

Less than 0.1%? There were only 640 GCN games according to Wikipedia (yeah, yeah), which means about two thirds of a game work. So far, of the games I've tested, about 40% have done something, even if that's just to show the menu, etc., and 10% have been playable. I've been playing Cubivore all night and already beat Panel de Pon on hard. Sure, it's not really ready for primetime, but you're grossly underestimating the current state of DIOS MIOS.
Oh boy, I knew someone was gonna complain on my exaggeration.

Install the recommend cMIOS from there, with it you can:
- Play all retail GC games from the correct region in your disc channel
- Play almost all import retail GC games using NeoGamma
- Use Ocarina on GC games(retail + backup, but not all games) using NeoGamma
- Play more than with any other method backup GC games using NeoGamma

With Neogamma, you need the latest version and set it to GC mode internal.
