Hardware Prices of modchips going down?

only time will tell. doesnt modchips have 100% compatibility with games while back up loader doesnt have a lot?

Well the backup loader is still in beta. Its not complete yet.

When it does become complete, it seems the only thing it wouldnt be able to do would be to autoboot, but thats what StarFall is for.

Plus right now, we have the tools to put the backup loader on any Wii, even if its updated to the newest version.

If the backup loader ever gives 100% perfect on games like the modchip, then yes. But I doubt that will happen.

[Don't misread this, I think the backup loader does a great job, but it has inherent limitations]

Yes, and about time too.

They've taken a ~£1 chip and try to sell it for £30-£40.

I used to sell PSX PICs, and when people where trying to charge £10 each I sold them for £1. Chip and installation was £10 (which some people tried to charge ~£50 for).

Since the PS2 though a simple pic chip isn't enough, so chip manufacturers are screwing people knowing they can't make their own (unless you have a early wii of course).

"how?" for which part?

For Starfall, just hold Y with the gamecube controller and you can autoboot any legit / official Wii game. If the disc channel is ever updated to allow backups to be run from there, I am not entirely sure, but I believe you could autoboot backups as well with Starfall.

For updated Wiis, there has been a fix for that. Its all thanks to IOS16:

Im pretty sure you will be able to install the cios for the backup loader by reading that topic.

Modchips still have the Gamecube thing going for them and higher compatibility with Wii games... and that you really don't have to worry about updating your console.
