I want a debate between Sony and Microsoft next E3. Kinda like the presidential debates. Should be fun.

Sony representative: we're proud to present...the next generation in gaming! :D
Microsoft: I agree on that: our xbox 1080 will highlight better looking games than ever before.
Sony: really? Yeah, well at least WE know how to handle multimedia experiences. What will you give us? The next generation of blue screens of death?
Microsoft: at least kinect actually works WITHOUT all that fancy sorts of devices. And that reminds me: my local sex shop called...they want their 'move' back.
Sony: that's nice. Now all you need is someone who actually LIKES kinect.
nintendo: *pops in* Guys...you're BOTH late to this generation of gaming. :D
Microsoft: hey ninty...gotten sued by apple yet?
Sony: *also at nintendo* at least we'll come up with a name that doesn't sound like a baby's first word. And that goes for you too, ouya!

Sony: really? Yeah, well at least WE know how to handle multimedia experiences.

*Spits imaginary drink over keyboard*

Yet they still have a vastly inferior offering to XBMC and I am not even talking about codec support (I know licenses get pricey there so I can accept that).

Anyway as for the matter at hand I guess it is halfway interesting, if it is just the PC component then I will want some info on the sorts of libraries and examples provided. If the PS4 is going commodity hardware (or thereabouts) I am not quite sure what to think. That said I will take modern intel chips over trying to think through cell in a way that gives me a good result (X86/X64 pipeline prediction- easy enough to work with, proper parallelism for game type scenario on Cell- run screaming). I should note that cell PCIe cards exist and others are doing interesting high bandwidth, low latency things with the PCIe these days (see some of the high frequency trading and FPGA stuff) so it may not quite be commodity hardware.
