Online it says corporate owned stores will not hire felons, but yea privately owned franchises may differ. And I believe everything I read online is true.
"We estimate that 3% of the total U.S. adult population and 15% of the African American adult male population has ever been to prison; people with felony convictions account for 8% of all adults and 33% of the African American adult male population."

Felonies are super common, admittedly I never worked at McDonald's but can confirm 100% there were felons at Sonic and KFC

It's a very low paying job and it tends to attract people who can't work anywhere else (aka felons)

I would be shocked if most local McDonald's didn't have a few people with felony convictions since it's like 1/12 people

Edit: not totally related but also, there were undocumented people working there too

Are there different type of "prison" in USA?
In Canada, there are prisons (simply called prisons) that are for minor crimes, and we have penitentiary, which are for major and/or violent criminals.
We usually consider a "major crime" when the criminal is sentenced to over 2 years of incarceration.

Its pretty much the same here in USA, then we have what's called "Marriage" in which incarceration lasts much longer.

Our Jail is what you call prison

Our Prison is what you call penitentiary

We on Colombia have: «Calabozos» (dungeons), Which are the ones on the sheriff and local police offices. Cárcel (Jail) for minor offenses and Prisiones (Penitentiaries) for major crimes, for violent and dangerous criminals there are (Cárceles de máxima seguridad) Security penitentiaries.

And even on our criminal system nobody is guilty until is proved by the grand jury.
