Hacking Possibly gettiing into GW

So i finally have enough spare change to get the gateway, problem is i have firmware 7.x.x since i updated recently to get steamworld dig.

having said that, is it a bad idea to get the GW now because i have semi up to date firmware?

Unless you buy another <=4.5 3DS/XL, a Gateway or any of the clones are completely useless to you.
