Is it possible to sign in and play online using the 3.55CFW? And then switch back to 3.55OFW? If yes, how?

Yes, with the 3.55 CFW you can sign into PSN and play online. As to downgrading to 3.50 OFW, check this thread at PSX-Scene as I am sure you can go to any firmware you want, just make sure to read the whole thing carefully first.

Yeah, you can just update by sticking on the 5.55 UPDAT.PUP IIRC.
