i know this probably sounds dumb, but i think that someone could maybe try to execute code using animal crossing, since it has the ability to scan qr codes, it could maybe be an entry point for code execution, the reason i think it would be possible is because homebrew on 3ds was first achieved with cubic ninja using the qr code scanner. please tell me if it would be possible

well you just said it yourself, it would be possible because of what happened in the past, so you basically answered your own question. However, i assume you are asking if it would be possible to create a hack/exploit from this and im guessing the answer is, probably not. The reason that Cube Ninja was able to run code was because CN would crash the game, allowing for code injection, where im assuming ACNH does not do that. Another example would be the infamous twilight hack, where you could enter more than 5 characters for epona's name and because of that the game would crash and allow for code to be executed.

That all being said, IF hypothetically, it was possible too crash ACNH by doing something in game and use the QR code injection, then i guess it could be possible, however, i wouldn't hold your breath.

thanks for letting me know!

As a MAJOR first-party game, Animal Crossing probably had its QR-reading code security-checked more thoroughly than Pubic Ninja, but you never know. Smart devs have likely investigated it already tho, as you're right that the QR scanning makes it worth checking out, so we might have heard already if it had any vulnerabilities.

Doesn't the game run in a more "game mode" while you play? So it's sandboxed from a lot of the OS?

The QR scanning occurs on your smart device, not your Switch. If you found an exploit, it would likely crash the device you scanned on and would never make it to the switch.
