The first language I learned was PASCAL, which is really easy if you know English well. It has all the features of a good language, is easy to understand, and prevents you from destroying your computer with a bad pointer.
Once you understand things like linked lists, binary trees, recursion, data structures, and general programming structure, then you can move on. I learned a bit of C (I've kind of lost interest because of school requirements), and if you're not stupid, it's an easy transition.
I will say, though, I've never worked with Object Oriented Programming, because I've never really found a 'why'... as in 'why' is this useful.
