Gaming pokemon x/y worth it?

Ive been an off and on pokemon player. never a big fan but its been fun playing them. I like the gba games more than the DS ones, not sure why.
Is pokemon x/y a good game for someone who hasnt been a huge fan of the series?
Ive played all the gba games, as well as pokemon diamond.

I too skipped Black/White... but I picked up pokemon Y and I'm really enjoying it. I have about 20 hours in and I'm not bored of it yet. If you have a 3DS, $40 is definitely worth the amount of play time you'll get out of it.
