Last time I worked on Rom hacking was in high school but I decided to come back to it since with LG Pikachu coming out this fall, I wanted to play gen 1.

Yellow just felt too dated and unconnected. My LeafGreen cart wasn't really an option since I don't have a way to have my favorite Pokemon.

So I decided to make the game I wanted to play and just break out my hacking stuff.
I wanted a game that wasn't a wild, new game. I wanted the first gen, check.
I want all the starters, put them in in correct habitats. I kept going for a few days until I had something playable, and so far it's great on 3ds Virtual Console.
For the very second, I'm taking suggestions and requests. Placing of Pokemon, movesets, typing, abilities.

List of most everything I changed;
1. No more Trade evos, most of them evolve by levels, all eeveeloutions gotten by stones.
2. Pikachu amped up to be good without evolution.
3. All Kanto and Johto Pokemon catchable. (Alert me if something slipped off the radar.)
4. Most Hoenn available.
5. All Legendaries and Myths can be gotten post game.
6. I did my best to put pokemon in as close to their habitats as possible.
7. I got rid of unnessary cut bushes, you can go back to Pewter through Cerulean, Fuchsia is much less likely to piss you off.
8. Charizard is finally Fire/Dragon and knows more dragon moves.

Things I want to change still;
Actually making events for all the legendary or at least giving them a conformable encounter.

Adding more items, currently all the item distributions are vanilla. A problem for Espeon since she needs a sun stone.

Adding some gas when you get out of Mt.Moon so that the game feels longer. Not so much more grinding, just a little level hike. 4-5 levels.

So far, playtesting is ok, things appear where they should and I had no problem catching good pokemon in the forest. The Pikachu I made is very good and as good as my starter meaning I got what I intended.

The game is definitely going to have to have a spike though, sooner then the planned Celadon, after Brock. Caught a Bulbasuar in Viridian Forest and had Brock down in less then a minute I think. This is just with normal training, I didin't grind it hard at all, just got it to level.

With all these pokemon available a hike is definitely needed to actually make the game fun without making it hard. I think keeping the trainers at level with the player give a good edge to gameplay, especially since Hoenn Pokemon are easily obtainable. So far a planned 5-8 level increase that will taper down a little to 5-6 once surge is beat. **I also want to give gym leaders some better pokemon, like a flaffy for Surge, definitely an improvement for Erica.**

IDK How to make the title screen, but I do intend to release a .CIA file with the games rom just to make it easier on people.

I have no idea how to release or make a patch.
I'd recommend Lunar IPS. It's useful for both creating and using IPS Patches on ROM Files. I think you're going to need an original, unhacked copy of the ROM in order to create the patch, though. Be sure to check which version of the ROM you're using, too, so you can let other users know before patching.
