Hacking Pokemon Diamond Slow-mo

I am playing Diamond, and I just got to the Game Center in Vielstone City. I thought it would be a good idea to check out the slow-mo feature of my M3DS Real. I turned it on and it just freezes the game while I hold down the button combo. I have read that other people have had similar problems with the slow mo. I am just wondering if anybody has had any success getting slow mo to work on Diamond or Pearl, or if I should just give up and wait for new firmware. Thx!
