If someone like me will get to this page while looking some cheats for PocketNES emulator on GBA, here is a hint.

1) Follow the URL: http://www.romdetectives.com/Wiki/index.php?title=Cheat_Archive
2) Download EasyCheats for FCEUX
3) Find a file with a game name you are looking for
4) Make a note of required cheat, e.g.:
Code:
S:03b3:09:Infinite Lives
5) Navigate to "cheats" menu in PocketNES, add a cheat manually
6) Type 4 hex value that goes after "S:" and following 2 hex values
7) Give it a name and go back (cheat will save)

Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid manual addition of the cheat.
When added, cheats are stored in a game's binary save file of unknown structure.
It would be great if someone can implement editor for those files.

It's also possible to permanently patch cheats into roms with Game Genie Guy:

Didn't try it with PocketNES specifically but it should work.

There's also the "Game Genie Thing" patcher program which was available on the PocketNES downloads page. This one directly modifies the input file, so make sure you're only opening up a copy of the ROM and not your original. I know for a fact this one works with PocketNES, never tried Game Genie Guy or CCCGP myself.

This is the last archived snapshot of the website. The "Game Genie Thing" download still works from it.

Funny enough, one of the only results for that in Google is my own post on GBATemp here.

Looking at the cache of of the PocketNES download site I saw it mentions that Hoe's builder tool can add cheats on the fly. I had forgotten all about that, but it sounds like it adds Game Genie type cheats to the roms, so it's probably similar to manually adding game genie style cheats before building.

I don't think so really. If it was somehow inserting the cheat data into the header then I would probably add it, but since there is no such accommodation in the source code that I've seen then I expect it's just patching the ROM. And if you really want to do that, you would just do that manually before building a compilation. Having the builder doing it doesn't really add value. Also, for a GUI builder this would be easy, but my design of command line builder makes that much more difficult - because the romfile arguments are treated as a big list, so it would be tricky to add additional arguments associated with specific list items. It would break the versatility of just being able to drag and drop a bunch of files onto the command line.

EDIT, well I suppose it could search for the existence of an IPS file with the same filename as the ROM, and apply that. I thought most cheat codes are memory addresses that get patched though, not so much IPS files to patch the actual ROM.
