Hacking Please help! USB loader not recognizing my partitions!

Hello, I'm trying to get my USB loader to work but it doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

I have Wii version 3.3U, and I have a Fujitsu 250GB hdd that is USB powered. I formatted the HDD to NTFS, then made a seperate partition which I formatted to WBFS using the WBFS manager. I was successfully able to add a game to the WBFS partition. I used ModMii to install the USB CFG loader onto an SD card.

The problem arises when I try to use USB loader; when I load it up, I get the error "OK! Invalid Partition: WBFS1 not found". I looked this error up and it seemed like it was just using the wrong name as the default, so I tried different names, like FAT1, NTFS1, but it doesn't seem to matter. It seems to be more within whats wrong with the partitions. If I hit A again, to select another partition, I'm given 4 partitions:
P#1 1923.92 UNK-fd
P#2 1959.31 UNK-2c
P#3 1797.47 UNK-33
P#4 1083.40 UNK-2b

Which doesn't make sense. I only have 2 partitions. None of these seem to describe mine at all. So what gives? I can't select any of these partitions. Other USB loaders seem to have just as much trouble. How do I know if my USB HDD is unsupported? How do I know that it's really looking at the partitions on my HDD? Thanks all for the help.

Having a WBFS partition is no longer required. FAT32 is the recommended partition format. Try putting games onto a FAT32 or NTFS partition using Wii Backup Manager and as .wbfs files.

Also, what is your cIOS situation like? If you don't know, run sysCheck and paste the results here.

Try formatting it to FAT32 like Lacius just said... and mkae sure that your cIOS is updated to the latest version... forgot what rev that is... probably rev 20 or 21.

When I run syscheck, my screen goes black and nothing happens. No sys file gets generated on my root. Does it take a while?

It shouldn't take that long.... try running it again.. Thats what I usually do if something goes wrong, and most of the time that usually fixes it.

I recommend following this guide or using ModMii to update your IOS files. Then try running sysCheck.

Regardless, you need to have IOS249 installed to be able to run backups from your USB drive. ModMii contains the latest version rev21 with lagfix, so I recommend using that. You might also wish to install IOS236 if you have not done so already.

It might be best to update all of them. Likewise, 3.3 does not include IOS files such as IOS58, so following the guide I linked to earlier will allow you to safely update to 4.2 and will install the latest versions of each IOS. Just skip to the part of the guide that says "Update to 4.2"

Wii Backup Manager automatically splits your files. This is a non-issue.

Is the game the your putting on the USB scrubbed? If it isn't then I guess that would explain the huge size. I would suggest scrubbing the game which usually decreases the size to an amount that FAT32 can accept. If it is scrubbed then you'll have to use a different file system.

As long as he is using Wii Backup Manager to send the files to his USB drive as .wbfs files, they will automatically be reduced to the smallest possible file sizes.

heres the syscheck!

i just updated to 4.2U successfully.

however, i'm kind of lost as to how to use this wii backup loader program. how do i select an iso to load?

and got to the point where I need to update to 239, however it's not working. Says that the IOS is already "protected", but it's not on my syscheck list.

So here's a list of problems which I can't seem to figure out..
1. USB CFG loader doesn't seem to recognize my USB drive, and lists it as 4 weird partitions listed in the OP. I updated to system menu 4.2U, but i still have the same problem.
2. Bootmii doesn't load from the HBC anymore, it goes straight to a black screen..
3. The 239 updater that was included in the guide for modding the wii doesn't seem to work. It says that the IOS is "already protected" (even though the 239 ios isn't even there..) and that I probably need to update my HBC, which I doubt.
4. I have no idea what file system to use. When it's WBFS, the Wii backup manager doesn't seem to function. I don't know how to put an ISO onto the HDD. The only way I got it to show up on the wii backup manager was to use the WBFS manager, "add it" to the drive then look at the wii backup manager, and there it is.. but have no idea what to do afterwards.
5. When my HDD is fat32, although it should be able to add files around 4.7 gigs, it says they're too big. Even though I scrubbed an ISO of brawl and DKC and in explorer they are listed as 4.5-4.7gigs, the HDD says that they're too big to be put in.

Do you mean the Wii Backup Manager? If so, here is how to use it:

Select the "Drive 1" tab.
Click "Drive" menu, select your drive.
Select the "Files" tab.
Click "Add" and select "Files..". Select your ISOs, CISOs, RARs, .wbfs in the dialog.
In the files list, tick all the items you want to transfer to the WBFS drive.
Click "Transfer" and select "Drive 1".
Done.

Thanks a lot Lacius, I was able to get the games onto the hdd successfully. However, I still have no luck getting them to run on the wii. It still doesn't recognize the partitions. Do you think this might be at all connected to my inability to start bootmii (I just get a black screen, and I used hackmii to set it up)?

You should install cIOS236. Make sure it uses v3351(?) of IOS36 and has all the patches. This will keep you safe in case of an accidental update or cIOS removal.

It also looks like your Homebrew Channel might be out of date, because your BootMii IOS is a lower version than the newer ones. Follow a guide for installing the latest version of the Homebrew Channel along with BootMii IOS.

EDIT: I saw you said IOS239, you mean 236 right?

Ok, so I updated my homebrew channel, but I'm still getting the partition error. However, the updater to install IOS236 (Yea, MwisBest I meant 236, thanks) is finally working. I hope thats a good thing.

Here's my latest syscheck. Is there anything I'm missing? IOS236 doesn't seem to be using IOS36 v3351 though. How do I do that?

Delete all instances of Configurable USB Loader from your SD card, download this, extract it, and put its contents onto your SD card. Also make sure your USB device is plugged into the correct USB port and that your USB drive is the only thing plugged into a USB port.

If the above methods still don't work, try unplugging your USB drive from your Wii and replugging it in while in the Configurable USB Loader menu.

I think the problem lies not in IOS but in the hard disk.
maybe its partitioned with GPT instead of MBR.

try another drive (eg some old 256MB usb stick)

Good news! I got it to work. I did some research on Fujitsu hard drives on the hard drive compatibility list on this site, and I tried some of the things the other users did to get their fujitsu drives to work (although they necessarily weren't the same as mine). I installed the hermes v5 cios' and set usb cfg loader to boot cios222 by default. works good so far.
