PlayStation Portal gets cloud streaming update

protal.png

Sony has just released a major update for its PlayStation Portal streaming device. The primary use for the Portal until now has been a remote play device to stream your own PlayStation 5 games to the Portal. With this newly added feature, you can now play PS5 titles without owning a PlayStation 5 at all. PlayStation Plus Premium tier subscribers can stream games they own from the cloud, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Grand Theft Auto V, Fortnite, Ghost of Yotei, Resident Evil 4, and more.

In addition, hundreds of compatible games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog****, including Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea and The Last of Us Part II Remastered are also streamable directly from the cloud.

For a full list of streamable games, visit here.

Cloud Streaming unlocks new ways to play: enjoy a game side-by-side with a friend who’s using your PS5 under a separate account, or stream your favorite game while someone else watches a movie on the console. Cloud Streaming also makes it easier to enjoy PS5 games on the go – at a hotel, café, friend’s place, or anywhere else with a high-speed internet Wi-Fi connection – since you can keep playing even when your PS5 console back home is powered off or is in use by another account.

I've loved my portal since I first got it, I remember I visited our father who lives 400 miles away, for his 70th Birthday and I took mine with us, even outside on the deck, where the party was held, me, my nephews and my cousins were all playing different games, and my PS5 was back home! The games ran phenomenal!
Just updated and tried the Cloud and it's smooth and
no latency what so ever!.

***UPDATED IMAGE UPLOADS*** Better Quality and More Transparent for all those image thieves lol.

Cool now the thing is slightly less useless

My partner has one and no matter where she is in the house or outside our network it’s an unplayable pixelated experience

This is with a hardwired connection and 1000mb up and down from Google fiber. So network shouldn’t be a bottleneck

The tech just ain’t there for this
If you're talking about using the Portal to remote play PS5 on the same network, the speeds provided by your ISP are irrelevant.

Says the guy who apparently has lots of time to rant but not the time to learn how to read, is showing a public display of arrogance, and is making a clown out of themself. I did in fact state what the "solution" or whatever a person would like to call it is, that has been stated by many people as significantly increasing the image quality on the Portal. It's even in the quote you used. But please, go on.
Did you try the settings, or no? An awful lot of people across many different threads in various locations have all stated that changing those settings did in fact significantly increase the image quality on their Portal. So no, you didn't Google SHIT. Because pages worth of results come up. Know what talking out of your ass is? Saying the settings don't help when you didn't even try them and claiming you Googled the problem when you clearly did not. LOL! What a moron.
"What a moron." sums up what I expected. Your mistake is that, based on very little information, you assume people around you are idiots. Ever heard of the Dunning Kruger effect? You tell others to google things that can be considered common sense around here. I didn't overlook your suggestions, I just gave you the benefit of the doubt and thought you had something that works when those settings are not enough. But you went with the first available answer, stuck with it and called everyone who called out your laziness stupid. Way to go, my friend.

Since you didn't get the hint when you were told those "solutions" of yours were "3 very basic things", I'll spell it out for you: Yes, the problem persisted after applying those settings.

I returned a Portal once, because my phone and Steam Deck could retain a stable remote play connection while the Sony brand product made for this specific purpose couldn't. And whether you believe it or not, as a computer science major I was able to try things that go far beyond your suggestions. I'd assume Sony went with a pretty cheap Wi-Fi chip or messed up on the software side, but I can assure you said PS5 settings neither helped nor mattered at all in my case.

Anyway, I think we can conclude that there sadly was not much to back up your initial "She's doing it wrong" comment. Maybe ask for details next time before instead of jumping to conclusions prematurely.

You're full of complete shit. Gaslighting, narcissistic asshole. I know your kind & your short story freakouts perfectly well. Go fuck yourself.

Sony Portal = Virtualboy

Both crap failures for the two companies, the only difference the portal can streaming with a shitty wifi card some actual 2025 games for $150. Both console failures have sales, even the virtualboy in good conditions have actual price $249 dollars.

Answer your question, only the insane simps hardcore fans that buy trash.

At the least the Virtual Boy had some impressive specs for its time. This Sony turd runs on a entry level Qualcomm SoC that cant even run any games on it. 100% stream dependent machine.

I think Sony should just say its... An Xbox ?!? :rofl2: :rofl2: . I just blew my mind.

A switch lite for 150€ is a better investment. 220€ for cloud gaming only is a waste of space (or heck for just a bit more you can get a cheap 64gb steam deck, which can also be used to stream PS5 games).
100% agree.

This device is just e-waste.

This device is such wasted potential.

That watermark logo is pretty damn big, though. Would've been better if it were smaller and/or transparent.

It's transparent 30% either way, I was rushing the images, was working during that time.

But I edited the posts and upload new images.
