Well it's only a launch title, so I don't have the highest expectations of it anyway.
Remember the GBA launch? We got F-Zero Maximum Velocity, a good racer, and a port of SMB2.
The DS had a lot of tech demo-esque launch software too.

7.0 - Lasting Appeal - There are plenty of missions to complete and items to collect. Plus you can always attempt to beat your own times. Shame your friends can’t play with you though.

Did they lower that score aspect partially because it doesn't include multi-player? That's like giving OoT a lower score because it doesn't have the option of letting a 2nd player control Navi's annoying spurts ("HeyListenListenHeyHeyListenHello!"). Some games aren't meant to include extra players, and just because "in this day and age" we are able to connect to each other, doesn't mean we should. Now, I'm not saying they are wrong on all accounts of their review, but that one just stuck out to me, and gave me the impression of the reviewer that they expect any multi-player opportunity, even if it doesn't suit the game.

Planes in mario kart 3ds CONFIRMED!
(not actually confirmed)

Please don't make excuses that Nintendo may use to cover up their ineptitude.

Be thankful Nintendo actually released a smaller launch title to accompany steel diver AND three versions of Nintendogs whilst they are already developing Kid Icarus, Mario Kart, a new Mario, Paper Mario, Ocarina of Time 3D and Starfox 64 3D.

Pilotwings Resort is in every way the "Wii sports" of the 3DS, except in this case it wasn't free.

I never played a Pilotwings game so I don't know what to think of this review, but I have read IGN reviews in the past. If it's from Nintendo or isn't an FPS, it gets punished for whatever nitpicky reasons they can find (this really goes for every video game review site I've seen, honestly). Seeing as how the game fits both of those criteria, I'm surprised it got as high a score as it did.

That being said, I would have liked to see a multiplayer mode, as it would have been fun and would have made a lot of sense to have one.

No. I'd rather they keep their game quality higher than throw something out for launch.
There's 3 third party games that are interesting to me, nintendo didn't need to throw out what should be a downloadable game (steel diver), and a cash-in attempt at an old franchise with a setting to bring in casuals from the wii (pilotwings resort).

pilotwings resort is not wii sports, it's wii music.
Wii sports is ar games.

The 3d flying seems intriguing, but the shortness worries me. Might get it later if it's cheap. If the video store by me ever gets in 3DS games (unlikely) would be a good rental.

If you can find anywhere that rents 3DS games, yea, go for it, I sure will. You'll be able to beat it within the rental duration from Blockbuster probably

* Expects low score. *
And what do you know, 7/10.
I love how a score rating labeled as "Good" is a bad/low score...
IGN (and a few other major reviewers) have a warped sense of rating score. That's why I'm a Blistered Thumbs guy now (OK, that's not why).

Why are people acting like every first party Nintendo game is great?

You forget that when Nintendo isn't doing Donkey Kong or Super Mario, they're making Mario Sports Mix, Wii Sports, Mario Party (9 was bad), Wii Party, Wii Music, and other thoroughly mediocre games this generation.

When Nintendo makes good first party games they make good first party games. When they don't, they make this.

Actually this wasn't first party developed, it was done by Monster Games who did the last three Excite... titles.

So far the two first party games like Steel Diver (Nintendo EAD) and Nintendogs (Nintendo EAD Group No.1) haven't really been what first party launch games should have been (if reviews are to believed).

Saying that, at least none are as bad as Pokemon Dash which was on the DS launch.

EDIT: Just so you know this isn't the first English website to review a 3DS game, CVG reviewed it a week or so ago, Nintendolife did Super Monkey Ball 3DS before and there has been a fair number of English language sites that have reviewed games in the last month.

Shit it isn't even the firs IGN 3DS game review as they did Steel Diver a few days before.

I actually liked Wii Sports, it was better than good, but not exactly great IMO. I don't think it should be lumped up there with those other games, at least.
