It is with mixed emotions that I made the decision to leave Microsoft and Lionhead Studios, the company that I co-founded in 1997, at the conclusion of development of Fable: The Journey,

I remain extremely passionate and proud of the people, products and experiences that we created from Black & White to Fable to our pioneering work with Milo and Kate for the Kinect platform.

However, I felt the time was right to pursue a new independent venture. I’d like to thank the team at Lionhead, as well as our partners at Microsoft Studios for their support, dedication and incredible work over the years.

He needed to start a new company to finish working on his Kinect-powered pedo simulator. :creep:

Seriously though, I believe he felt somewhat drained and needed a new, fresh start. It was the same with Bullfrog - they released alot of good games and then came a period of stagnation. Lionhead hasn't released a "truly amazing game" since Black and White and Fable - everything else was just re-hashed ideas. I fear that the creativity of Peter may have simply ran out... alternatively, he needs a "push forward".

When you have IP's that sell great such as Fable, you don't feel the "need" to think creatively anymore - you just release sequels. Maybe Peter wanted to leave all those trademarks behind him and start something completely new.

He's been in the industry for years and he took part in making games that were fantastic and games that were apalling, so... we can expect just about anything from him. He's one of those authors who are visionaries - they come up with glorious ideas that meet either universal approval or... become universally hated.

For anyone interested, that's code for 'Microsoft are fucking up my creativity and giving us pointless constraints, I want to make games that are good, not games that appeal to a mass market.'

They're our fans, and this is their hobby, man! We can't be lazy! We can't back away from creative inventiveness now, just because it costs a bit more money. Now's the time to double down on that.
Is Call of Duty really it? Is that all this industry really is? If it is, then you should just shift me off to the mental asylum now.

A fresh start would imply that he has at any point in his career, made a good game. He gets his fresh start when he does, not to mention doesn't completely try to piss off the entire gaming industry with his asshattery. Never once liked the guy or his games, nothing changes about my opinion of him. Black and White 2 was a colossal let down and Fable has been nothing more then overhyped mediocrity.

Unfortunately he is right though, the industry is so stagnant right now and games as a whole are lacking a lot of innovation and unique factors that make them great creative titles. What sells on a world wide scale that appeals to everyone? Nothing. Shooters sell to North Americans and Europeans, RPG's (for the most part) are bigger in Japan,. And the thing is that no developers are really rethinking what it means to play a game and how the experience can be improved to be more involving and thought invoking.

Magic Carpet, Populus, Dungeon Keeper 1-2, Syndicate, Black and White - all games widely accepted as masterpieces in their specific genres. Everyone's a critic, I see.

Well now that he is gone, they don't have to rush their games and deal with him hyping them up. Now they might be able to start and finish a game with all the features advertised.

Black and White 1 wasn't. But as for Fable, eehhhh... it was pretty when it came out, but i guess that's where the uniqueness ends.

@Xdqwerty, People who create revival services for the Wii end up in disaster, same goes for Pretendo lol.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

Remember when RiiShop was a thing?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    not really
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
