Hacking Pengin Backup Channel (Latest Package)

I think one can be put together without sound, that's easy enough.

As for the image quality question, I asked that same question a while back. The short answer is: no, not with the tools available at this time. Also note, if you're using the 16x9 version, the wii stretches a 4x3 image out to the full screen size, and that causes a little distortion in and of itself. Other than that, in order to avoid complications, the images get compressed a lot (perhaps more than is actually necessary). This is why my preview images look better than the channel does to some degree, because they have not been compressed by WADder (the utility that makes the channel) yet.

If someone felt like putting it together by hand, and was willing to test it all out, perhaps we could get a version with better graphics, however not too many people are willing to take that risk. If we're patient I think better utilities will come out/WADder will see upgrades, and the channel will look progressively better.

Glad everyone seems to be enjoying it! It's nice to see work giving rewards every now and then :-P

Can you link a guide or something on how to make it by hand? I have 2 Wii and are willing to sacrifice one of them ;P

The graphics are great here l really love the wiish style you've got going...
Awesome work!

Just a question though - why on earth are you calling it "Pengin Backup Channel". It's too confusing and for awhile l thought we had yet another backup loader - but in reality it's just wiigator gamma. Why not specify that it's Wiigator Gamma Channel with a theme you made called Pengin?

Penguin, could you provide the font you used? It's called MyriadPro Regular. BTW, I love your channel.

EDIT:nvm, I've found it.

Thanks asthepenguinflies for releasing the "source"...! But a question: Could you, or someone else, upload a Pack with png-Files? Not all have Photoshop (I'm using GIMP...)

Thanks in Advance

His pack has both, png and psd files.
I will try to convert the psd layers to gimp ones. Don't know if that is possible, but I will try.

I don't know alot about resolutions so whats the difference between 4x3 and 16:9?

Is my wii safe if I just randomly choose?

Well to put it simple as possible.
If you TV is old and the screen is like a square its 4:3
If you have a widescreen TV its 16:9

For those confused by the name, sorry about that. The reason it's named as it is, is because it's not technically any specific launcher, just a set of pictures you can apply to any launcher you want. I suppose in my mind, I think of "loader" or "launcher" as signifying the program, channel as the images/packing of the loader as a channel. I've added to the "EDIT" at the top of the first post to ensure there's no more confusion.

Also, it kinda freaks me out that people grabbed the post/package and translated it into spanish (badly it seems). Also, that they added "wiisos" onto what seems to be the preview image (not going to bother downloading their link to find out if it makes it further than that). At least I was attributed! I suppose I'm glad people are taking this and using it however they want, that was the entire point afterall.

On other things, if someone can take a gander at the new 002 fixed wad and let me know if it works with bleach, that'd be great. I don't have the game, so I can't test it.

@aakerlind: Well, that's a bit of a problem. The utilities being used are in spanish it seems, and I've never found a good guide to using them (WADder essentially automates the process of using them). You might find bits (there was a guide to looping music and a few others at one point) but to be honest, I wouldn't trust myself to wade through utilities in another language, doing something I've never done before. Long story short: if I had found a good guide that I trusted, I would have done it by hand and I would have likely included the instructions in the package. However, I asked in the original thread for the same information you're asking for and never got it :\. It's sad really, almost like they'd rather not have people doing it themselves. If you turn anything up in your search, let me know. I gave up after over an hour of looking, but I may just be bad at it :-P

@phratt: To add onto what aakerlind said about resolutions: Chances are, if you're asking this question, you want 4:3. In order to have set your wii up for widescreen, you would have had to know what "16:9" meant. At least, I believe that's the way it's referred to in the system menu. However, either option is "safe" to use with the wii (the images are both the same size) it's just that if you choose the wrong aspect ratio, the image will look either smooshed or stretched, rather than "just right." Hope this helps.

As always, keep any suggestions coming.

This is a nice loader, but is it possible to make it work with SoftChip?

You could use the .psd and a softchip dol to create your own softcip channel.

penguin, could you put up a rapidshare link?

I don't know, everytime when I tried to download anything from mediafire it goes as slow as hell. But with rapidshare, I'm able to gain 60kb/s+ speed or even 113kb/s+ speed at times.

So... could you?
