Yeah, I'm starting to dislike this new skill-based ranking system. It's more accurately showing how much I suck at this game

Just letting you know, playing this game to the level the pro's do in no way does any good for you outside maybe getting respect from other players.

I used to be one of those skilled players but had to quit because of the damage it did me, playing it for 2 years due to being addicted gave me horrible migraines and what cab only be called obsessive withdrawal if I ever tried to stop. Friends also noticed that I tend to be a lot more likely to forget things quickly and lose interest quick too.

Play casually for your own safety.

Nyanners: You were Ijah, right? I was wondering why you suddenly disappeared
I'm sure most people around this level are aware that playing will provide little to no benefit outside of the game. After all, it is only just a game.
But a big part of what makes the game fun is progression, so you can't just tell people to stop trying to be "pro". However, I've noticed that playing too much can only halt progression and lead to frustration (among many other problems, as you mentioned). Moderation is key, as it is with everything else.

Wow , this thread is sort of dying.

Is the hacking detection been improved??
I quit about a year ago because people were using cheat engine to slow down the game (for CTB) and dual-screening (for Taiko)
I might go back every once in a while to check things up, but seriously unless peppy decides to spend a bit more time banning those cheaters I'm not going back permanently.

dual-screening is pretty much impossible to detect but I don't think I've heard of anyone slowing the game down. Then again I don't play CTB, but that kind of thing should be really easy to detect, especially when spectating.

Yea, the thing I hate is that the Taiko mode is "trying" to replicate the Taiko no Tatsujin for PS2 / Wii, but it fails.
IMO mods shouldn't award any additional points (except for DT).

Have you tried the relatively new osu!mania mode? None of the mods award any extra points there.

I tried playing Osu! (Osu! mode on Beats) but didn't like it as much as I like the 'normal' mode. It's too unpredictable where you have to click, which I understand is part of difficulty I guess, but it's just not my thing. I did notice that I progressively got better at DDR-like games. There's even a DDR arcade machine at a bowling alley near my school, which I sometimes use during breaks or when I have free hours.

I also got a dancing mat which keeps moving around when I use it, making it nearly impossible to use.

Beats' osu! mode isn't a very accurate representation of the actual game. If you're using .sm charts, you will get randomly generated maps, whereas the maps within osu! are all handmade.
Not to mention that there's a few things about how Beats renders notes that make them more difficult to read. Honestly, I'd consider myself a high-level osu! player, and judging from videos online, I still can't follow what's going on in Beats.

Yea I did, but I'm not very good with 7K, so I usually played 4K which had a 0.76x score multiplier, IDK if it changed though (stepmania is a better alternative anyway, so it didn't grab my attention for too long).

1. practice (I sucked with 7k at first too - then I started playing specific maps and it turned out I sucked at 4k as well, converts are just laughably easy)
2. there are actually quite a few 4K specific maps, and those don't decrease your score
3. play specific maps, autoconverts suck for various reasons. Try a map like http://osu.ppy.sh/s/124866

Oh wow, they actually ranked a o!m only map, does that mean there's no need for an osu! diff as well?? I remember there being a requirement on every map for it to get ranked.
Seeing this I just might get back in the game and map exclusively for taiko.

It has been that way for a pretty long time. As long as there is a decent difficulty spread (generally this means Easy, Normal, Hard and an optional Insane) the map can be any mode. Here's a recent example of a Taiko only map. Those are somewhat rare, but there is a pretty steady influx of osu!mania maps nowadays.

Standard Osu! is the only Osu! Half of the time I actually play Osu! now is just hitting random.
osu!mania best osu! (also seems like pp for mania and Taiko finally got fixed. I'm about #1000 mania and #1700 Taiko now, not bad)
Edit: TRIPLE DIGITS WHOO

Yeah, it's on the front page :) The other modes now have proper ppv2 ranking systems now.
I guess now I have to work harder to get my Taikoand CtB ranks to 4 digits...
