So last night I was playing Emerald on a clean ROM using open_agb_firm on my cfw 3ds. I trained my Zubat and Slakoth from LV10-> LV18 with Slakoth evolving, beating Brawly etc and I specifically do a thing where when I finish a play session I go home and save my game. I saved multiple times as I played, such as after Slakoth's evolution, because the other day I had a crash on my Platinum after not saving. I know for sure I saved multiple times because once the play time was 3:33.

This morning I went to boot my 3ds and was stuck in godmode boot screen with no open_agb_firm option so I updated luma and everything worked as normal (included bc idk if that was related or a coincidence)

But when I opened Emerald, I was back with Zubat and Slakoth at LV10, which was a bit of a bummer bc of the time investment. Does anyone know what may have happened? I've never had this happen before and I'm worried about getting into play sessions if my saves may not write

stuck in godmode boot screen
Not sure what you mean by this.

In any case, SD card corruption is very common and would be consistent with your problems.

Standard procedure: copy everything off your SD card (Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier is recommended since there's a possibility of corruption), format the card, test the empty card with h2testw, and copy everything back again. See if that fixes it. If the test fails or if you can't format the card, then you should get a new card (and copy everything to the new card after formatting and testing it).

Oh I meant that when i Start+Power usually i get two options: godmode and open agb. But when I booted for this issue it went straight to godmode

and thanks yes SD card issues might be the culprit. My SD is backed up but ive been procrastinating replacing it guess its time
