Good evening,
I am really hoping someone(s) can help me out here.
First I'm not overly tech savvy, I understand basics and can figure out how to do things, but often the lingo/terms will throw me off. So please try to keep that in mind when reading my issue and when trying to reply. I'm sorry if I come off as ignorant if I reply/answer with questions on a simple question.

I have an old Wii. I purchased it used about 8 years ago and it was already modded with home brew and and external drive with over 500 games on it.

About 4 years ago, my curious son, who was 8, took the SD card out and lost it.

I have had the system packed away for 4 years now and want to bust it back out and play it. So here are my starting off questions/info I know and dont know...

No clue what all was on the SD card so no idea what I will need on a new one.

No idea of what version the system is running as I have not updated it since it was in my possession and not sure when the previous owner did.

Would I be able to update it? I remeber being told I cant connect to the internet/update as it will brick the system.

If need be, I can hook everything up and get information for anyone to try and figure out even a starting point at getting this back up and running.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and to any information/assistance that is given in advance.
I just wanna play some mario party!!

Most (if not all) homebrew apps can be loaded from the USB hard drive too so you don't really need another SD card (although I still prefer having the apps on an SD instead of the hard drive).

Updating won't brick your Wii but I will replace some files that are important for homebrew. Turn on the Wii, go the settings and you will see what version you are on in the corner (it will be something like 4.3U). Tell us what you see before doing anything so we can have a starting point. Also, see what channels are installed in the menu of your Wii. That can give us an idea of what you had on your SD card.

I haven't plugged in/hooked up the external HD to it.. Will that have any info you would need

Anyone able to assist? Or at least try? Do I need any information from the external Hd

The external is probably just Wii games or gamecube games no files are probably needed from it unless theres an sd backup on it. The sd card is just used for the homebrew apps and homebrew channel iirc do you have the homebrew channel?

Will this help with my Wii tho?

Sorry I'm confused.
