Hardware Odd Disc Drive Behavior (Plays Blu-Ray, CDs, not DVDs)

As the title says, my PS3 is having trouble playing just DVDs, but no problem with CDs or Blu-Rays. I tried looking online, but its either that a PS3 won't play Blu-Ray discs or won't play DVDs or CDs. For me, I want to rule out the possibility that this is a laser issue, as this doesn't seem common for laser issues. What could be wrong?
(p.s, my PS3 is a CHECHH01 that has been jailbreaked.)

While it certainly could be a laser issue, since your ps3 has been jailbroken could the DVD region be set to the wrong region? (I don't quite remember how to set the region, but I do remember that it's possible to do so)
