Graphics chip maker Nvidia has apparently been awarded a contract to provide its mobile-centric system-on-a-chip, Tegra, to a new Nintendo DS, which will be announced in late 2010.

Insiders tell IT news outlet BSN that a single chip Tegra will supposedly power the new DS; the Tegra was developed for use in mobile devices like Microsoft's Zune HD as well as smart phones.

If true, this could explain why Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang declared that the Tegra account will account for half of Nvidia's revenues in the next couple of years. It would also be the first time Nintendo and Nvidia have partnered.

We are following up with Nintendo and will update if the company comments.

Wow, the DSi has not been out that long and there are already rumors of a new DS. I must say I am surprised.

i´ll not buy this i barely use my ds, the psp graphics and gameplay is so much better, i wish nintendo makes a 1 screen handheld again thats what made them big with the gameboy and gameboy advance, i really hope for a new gameboy not this stupid senseless ds that only was bought by some kids with not enough money for a real handheld like the psp. sony really gave us a great device with a lot of games available already, true revolutionary with stunning gfx and gameplay and fun.... if i was to buy a new console it would happen right now... a used psp... so many great games available for it already.

nintendo knows this, thats why they bring a new handheld because the psp is winning the race against nintendo .. just look at sales figures and games coming out.. ds is dying

The bolded statement is completely false, the DS is beating the PSP hands down but both are good systems that have their pros and cons. Also caps, proper grammar, and punctuation on the bolded statement, didn't your English Teacher teach you anything.

+1 to Hop. Spend it wisely.

The DSi beat the PSP in Japan, despite it being a higher price and the price cuts put on the latest PSP model. And the PSP Go is a gigantic loss. No one in their right mind will spend almost $300 on a shitty device that's not even compatible with your old PSP games. It's one of the dumbest marketing decisions I've seen in a long time.

The fact is that you could easily buy a PS3 for the price of a PSP Go, or close to that. And the fact that the PSP Go doesn't have access to the full library of original PSP games and the fact that it's a hell of a lot more delicate than other PSP models really makes it a terrible move on Sony's part.

You still got ripped off because you could have bought a used PSP-3000 for $110-$120 or a new one for $150 and used the extra money for games and if you are switching to Digital Distribution only like myself to save even more money, it's 100% possible to do so on any PSP, just get a bigger memory stick.

That's still under the price point of the PSP Go in the end.

I have a 32 GB that costs $110 and if you shop around online you can find a 16 GB for less than $100. Best Buy and such are overcharging pretty badly.

I would, if it saves me $50. Just back up your saves on your PC.

this part should be highlighted as very important
