I've been trying for about a week to enter RCM mode on my Nintendo Switch (firmware 4.1.0). I Initially was going to build a jig, but had no luck with that, and I have a 3D printed jig off of ebay. I have tried powering it on while holding the Vol+ with no usb, tried holding Vol+ then plugging in USB, tried inserting the jig right when the device powers on (simulating home key press). I've even tried Vol- but the device has never entered RCM mode once. I am 100% positive the pins of the jig are making contact, so I'm wondering what I'm doing incorrectly here or maybe I was extremely unlucky and got some hardware where this has been fixed.

Please post step by step in high level detail what you did to enter RCM mode. Did you do something with the Joycons, does the SD card have to be inserted and does the SD card have to be formatted in a specific way? This is not working for me, and my system is only about 3 weeks old.

You're doing it right, I'm 100% positive the pins of the jig are not making contact. I bent pin 9 to contact 10 on my right joycon, but I've also used a paperclip rig. Volume + and Power or Volume + and plugging in the USB is the correct way. SD card inserted or not makes no difference, jig should be inserted before pressing buttons.

Thank you for the reply. I'm going to try cleaning the contacts with alcohol. Also does it matter if a microSD is inserted or not when entering RCM mode?

I had difficulties making it boot to the RCM with a paperclip, so I soldered pin 9 and 10 inside the right joycon together and now it works reliably.

Nope, SD card doesn't matter. My guess is the jig pins are just not long enough or are not touching the pins right. I'd recommend contacting the seller and/or making a paperclip rig from the guide on this forum, just be careful when inserting and removing it.

Take a paperclip
Bend it so it can touch the pin 1 and 10
Hold volume + first and then press power
You can use flashlight to be sure it touches the pins.

There finally! I guess the jig wasn't clean, now in RCM mode:

I get why your doing it, but I can't condone the work you had to put in to get to it. From what I understand 4.1.0 doesn't have homebrew access even with rcm because devs have been working on getting atmosphere to work with all the firmwares. When it comes you'll have a softmod.

I am however happy you managed to get it figured out
