Well, obviously, sooner or later, this had to happen. Whenever Nintendo comes up with a innovation, some smart ass wakes up and copies it. It's been going on forever, so, I'm not surprised. Controls are something people have been saying are "missing" from tablets and android as a gaming platform for ages. Now companies are adding them or making bluetooth addons for it and its copying Nintendo.

That's like saying that since Apple popularized the idea of a tablet PC the best, every tablet manufacture must be copying them. It's called a trend. Companies tend to follow trends that make money. This is absolutely nothing new.

I hate console gaming because of my TV's setup, and I don't like changing the input and turning on the console when I have a crappy setup and could use my time towards something more productive. This is a cool solution, because it can run games that a handheld couldn't without all of that hassle.... but at the same time I rather just play my 3DS because of the library, and I have the option to bring it where ever I want.

Honestly, you can just buy a box to plug all your inputs into and then plug the box into the TV and easily switch inputs. I'm blanking on what it's called but there's plenty of them. Like I have my Xbox 360, Wii, and PS2 all hooked up to it and I basically just press a button to change inputs instead of fiddling with wires. Works fine and they're probably like $20.

Hmmm. I used to have one of those for composite cables. I guess they would make it for component and probably HDMI.

And I don't have to fiddle with any wires. I'm talking about changing the input on the TV itself. I only have my Wii and PS3 hooked up to my TV. I just don't want to play console games really because I feel like I could be doing something better, and the small hassle demotivates me even more, haha. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Depending on how you look at things, everything can be considered copying, or original. Up to you. But, this is business, and I'm not part of it. So, even if I don't like how it works, I think it's best I keep my mouth shut. Especially if Guildilocks quotes a post I made.

Tbh, the Wii U seem perfect for you. You don't even need to turn on the TV.

3D screen still doesn't make sense. I wasn't aware that just because someone else has already used something in a similar way then you can't do it. How else could you use a 3D screen anyway except to display images from a computer?!

Indeed not, though Cut the Rope is really designed for a touch interface anyway. Some puzzles are easier when you cut more than one rope at the same time which is hard to do with non-direct controls.

I'm hoping that Google introduces native controller support to android and api's so that developers don't have to cater for each individual solution. In terms of physical hardware I dislike the idea of holding anything over 5 inches (I'm going to regret phrasing it like that) so I'd only use an attachable gamepad with a phone and stick to a conventional standalone version with a tablet and a stand.

I would say it is copying if the company who tries to "make best use of something" is only doing so because another company did it within the same field and succeeded.

Looks good but tablets are not gaming consoles and should never be, they should be aids for students and for business use.

I have a tablet and I use it for neither. They're generally just cool devices for web browsing and such that are a bit more portable than a laptop and work well as an entertainment platform in general. There's some fun games on top of music capabilities, video capabilities (both via a video file or through streaming like Netflix or Hulu, as well as Youtube), eBook capabilities, and stuff like that. Plus you can nab some decent tablets for less than laptops. Like a Kindle Fire (which is said to be on the more high end scale of Android tablets) is only $200.

They're definitely not a "dedicated gaming platform" but we basically haven't had one since like the DS/DS Lite. The DSi had non-gaming features, the PSP had non-gaming features, and now the 3DS and Vita are introducing even more non-gaming features.

there are ppl who feel handhelds are too game-y and kiddy so they to discuss the gaming environment with something more mature. then comes tablet that can do so much and ALSO games. hence no more to be ashamed of buying a tablet for games while it CAN do other things.

besides i read on engadget (who have covered everything at CES including this) that its 1/3 the weight it looks but a little odd to hold... cumbersome maybe

Of course everyone is forgetting about Android emulators. Congratulations, you now have proper controls to suit them.

And "app games" aren't as bad as people make them out to be. There are shitty games (just like any console library) but there's certainly nothing wrong with playing like Cut the Rope or anything.

This is what bluetooth controllers are for. (PS3 anyone?)

I wish it didn't have the 3D screen, because that's just gonna jack up the price. D:

But then again, thanks to apps that make the Wiimote (and its accesories like the Nunchuk or Classic Controller) or the PS3 controller usable on Android, there's not much point to having controls built in. I know when I get a tablet, I'll buy a PS3 controller for OnLive and emulators.
