Heyo! I'm new here, hope I'm doin' this right.
I was looking for help with N64 emulation on Wii. (I really wanna get Mario Party 3 working well, above all else!) I've tested out Wii64, Wii64Rice, and Not64- the last of which has worked best for me (both Wii64 ones tried very hard to warrant flashing light warnings in MP3, though they seemed fine for other games?).

However, Not64 has a big drawback for me, in that the audio of all games is very noticeably delayed. As far as I can tell, the inputs aren't delayed, just the sound. In Mario Party 3, the delay is probably 0.3 seconds or so, juuuust enough to be noticeable on every single movement. Some Mario 64 Romhacks I've played have it even worse, with Elise having probably 0.6 seconds of delay. I suppose it's not game ruining, but it does bug the heck out of me- and the virtual console release of MP2 didn't have this issue, so I know the Wii can hypothetically do better.

And, I wanted to ask- ......is there any fix for this? Any settings combination, or alternative emulators I can use? Vague question, but I've already put hours into messing around with this to no avail, and I'm not even sure what else to look for. If there are other emulators that play MP3 well, I'd be down to try any of 'em out.

Thanks for your time~

Some resources:

The Wii N64 emulator compatibility list is for both Not64 and Wii64:

Very occasionally you'll get lucky and the game you're interested in has a virtual console injection that actually works (not this time):

I don't have personal experience trying to get MP3 going on Wii, but the emulator compatibility listing says it works in Wii64 with fb textures on - is that what you tried?

Audio in all games being delayed on Not64 sounds odd. I'd fiddle with the settings there to see if you can't clear that up separately.

I could have sworn I'd tried Wii64 with FBTextures on, but I just re-installed and tried again, and it worked mostly fine! .....Though the audio isn't any better, sadly. It does at least sync with my inputs, but it's much more crackle-y, and sometimes more laggy than Not64's? I don't think it's always playing at full speed, even when the game appears to be from my eyes.
And Wii64 Rice seems entirely broken for Mario Party 3. Models flick in an out, the board visuals are drastically misaligned with each other, etc.

For Not64... after some more testing, the delay seems to persist regardless of my settings? Most of my tests are with FB textures on, and no other changes to defaults. I think I've tried every other option individaully though, and they don't seem to affect much. (Ironcially, except FB Textures- having it off seems to improve stuff a *little*, but it also makes the visuals a genuine health hazard; not really worth the tradeoff)

I suppose to clarify- My Not64 version is listed as 2026-04-10, and my Wii64 versions are Beta 1.3. (I used to have 1.42 I think, but for this reinstall I tried an older version for the heck of it. I don't *think* the newer ones were better audio wise?)

EDIT: Oh, and I don't suppose my roms being .z64 would impact much here, due to the compression...? They're all pretty old, and I don't recall how to properly convert them back to .n64. (and the web's reserach and tools didn't appear to help much...?)
Just thought I would mention it in case the compression's adding an obfuscation that's slowing things down, somehow

You really should keep FB textures to OFF actually, it doesn't help many games at all.

Oh, for which emulator?
From my experiences on Not64, FBTextures are strictly required for Mario Party 3. With them off, the board screen flickers aggressively, multiple times per second. (hence why I said it made the graphics a genuine health hazard, it's very intense)
Wii64 Rice also has this, and I think normal Wii64 does too?

Good to know for full 3D games though, if nothing else~

Yes only if the game absolutely requires it, you should have it on but for everything else you should actually keep it off.
