So, a few months ago, I bought a 2ds and updated it prior to realizing that a homebrew/custom firmware scene existed for the system. So now I am stuck on 11.0.33U. I understand that it is quite difficult to downgrade, that CIA installation and such is practically nonexistent as a result of this. I am considering buying another 2ds in order to gain access to cfws and such. Prior to doing so, I wanted to find out if it is HYPOTHETICALLY possible for the firmware to be downgraded without a second system or hardmod because if it is, I will just wait it out and save the money. If someone could let me know whether it could or couldn't happen, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, sorry for the sh*tpost, I tried to ensure the title wasn't clickbait...

There are rumors of someone trying to find an arm9 exploit (they currently claim to have an arm11 exploit). If this is found, then 11.0 will be completely hackable. For now though, you will have to buy another console, get a hardmod, or find someone with a hacked console to downgrade with. If you go with the first, you can always sell your current 2ds after downgrading it for somewhat of a profit (assuming you are going to do a system transfer after you get it).

(note: I am not saying that the arm 11 exploit is true or not, it is just a rumor, I do not have much more information, and do not want this thread to turn into a warzone because I mentioned it. If you want to find it, there was a post somewhere on this forum about it.)

Thank you :) I will probably just wait it out then, as I don't particularly want to buy a replacement, and finding someone else with a hacked 3ds in Montana is virtually impossible since half our state is still wandering what a gosh darned "internets" is. Thank you fir the information!

You can send it off for a hardmod as well.
