Hacking Noob with stupid questions

I'm a Noob and I've just bought a Wii Black Limited Edition.
Software version 4.2E

I've downloaded Mega Man 9 Wad and want to try to install it.
As far as I know, I need The Homebrew Channel and Wad Manager to do this.
I've downloaded this Wii Homebrew Channel for 4.2

But first I want to make a Nand backup of my Wii before I try anything stupid.
How do I do that with my version 4.2E ?
I really don't want to f*** up my Wii

At this moment I don't have any plans on playing backups.
Just making a Nand backup and installing some WiiWare games.

you still need to hack your wii, The homebrew channel and wad manager aren't enough to install wads. Just follow xzxero's guide at the top of the forums.

Get the latest Bootmii installer and install Bootmii. You can make a NAND backup in there. http://bootmii.org/download/

Ok I've installed Homebrew Channel and BootMii and made a Nand backup, so far so good

I could only install BootMii as IOS, but would I be able to restore the Nand if something where to go wrong?
I've read that it should be installed as Boot2.
If I where to do something that would f*** up the menu then I wouldn't be able to start BootMii from the HBC or am I wrong?

boot2 is no longer available in new wiis.
keep you bootmii installed as ios with a backup
install preloader (or priiloader) which will give you some form of brick protection
