you can shut off your wii for good (by pressing the power button a long time) or disable wii connect 24 from the settings. it's common knowledge that the wii does a lot of wifi while supposedly "shut off"

Since none of us know "Amy" you will have to provide more details than just "does the same thing" since you never properly demonstrated what your Wii is doing wrong.
