Hey everybody! I have a problem.
I cannot get my USB HDD to be recognized by my Nintendo Wii!

The USB HDD that I am using is:
WD(Western Digital) My Passport Essential SE
Serial: WDBABM7500ASL-000
Capacity: 750GB
While some may argue, I did some research and while my Serial does not exactly match the one on the USB compatibility list I found out that the only difference between WDBABM7500ABK and WDBABM7500ASL is the color!
ABK for BLACK, ASL for SILVER and ABL for BLUE.
According to the compatibility list this HDD should WORK with BOTH Homebrew and Loaders...but it is not for me!

Also, I ran that SysCheck app for the Wii and here are my IOS:

sysCheck v2.0 by Double_A
...runs on IOS56 (rev 5405).

Region: NTSC-U
System Menu 3.3 (v353)
Hollywood v0x11
Console ID: 34173205
Boot2 v2

Found 80 titles.
Found 26 IOS on this console. 0 of them are stub.

IOS4 (rev 3): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, Flash Access, NAND Access
IOS9 (rev 516): Trucha Bug, ES Identify, Flash Access, NAND Access

Also I have tried TEN TIMES to run that dang Hermes cIOS 222 installer. I have also tried to run three different versions of the Hermes Installer, first the Latest (v5.1) and then the one recommended by the Backup Loading Basics forum post. All attempts have failed to download ALL of the cIOS files that it can possible install from the network! It always ends up with a "BAD HASH" error and 1070 error code (The screen goes back to the HB Menu too fast for me to examine it further.)

I even debugged!
DEBUG TEST 1:
USB SLOT RIGHT HAND SIDE
Homebrew Channel - Cannot Detect USB Device
FCEGX - Cannot Detect USB Device
SNES9XGX - Cannot Detect USB Device
VBAGX - Cannot Detect USB Device
uLoader - No WBFS file system detected (shows partition on HDD!)
USBLoaderGX - No USB Device Detected for IOS246. (IOS222 CRASHES THE Wii!)
Wii64 - "An Error Ocured"

DEBUG TEST 2:
USB SLOT LEFT HAND SIDE
Results are the same as TEST 1.

I am completely stumped and frustrated! I just want to Play DKC Returns DANGIT!!

Somebody please help.

-=UPDATE=-
Okay I found a higher version of the .dol file and now USBLoaderGX is able to somewhat detect my drive. Now I cannot get my New Super Mario Bros ISO file to appear! Does the game need to be a spicific format? Or do I somehow need to install IOS223?

Okay I looked over a couple guides on the net and got my USB HDD to work with Configurable USB Loader. I am playing a backup of MY Mario Kart Wii game. I have the physical disk, but the catch is...I am playing Mario Kart Wii while the Game Disk is NOT in the system!

I still have not figured out why I cannot access my HDD in the Homebrew Channel. I would like to use some of the 750GB(Or 698.6GB as the Wii reads I guess...I have no idea why.) for some SNES games like CHRONO TRIGGER!

If I were you, I'd just re-hack (start from scratch) with ModMii.
All you need is a 2GB SD card.
Modmii does the rest for you. click it on my sig....
Also ,modmii has a usb loader section. use that also, to format the drive, etc....

It worked for me using 249 20b and wiiflow r254. I had some issues as it does not initialize fast. so if your too fast it does freeze also if your leave it idle. (i think new rev of wiiflow are more patient).

IT WONT WORK IN HOMEBREW CHANNEL IF ITS FORMATTED NTFS YOU NEED FAT32

You can play the game without the disk in the system.

750GB = 7,500,000,000 bytes = 698.491931 gigabytes
So that's not the wii's fault.

To load SNES games/etc you can....
1-Create a fat32 partition [check the guides here, idk if it needs to be primary or not] and store the games there.
2-find the vc game of choice

Here's a tip, let the wii format your hdd via usb loader.
Install an original game.
If it loads, then it's not the hdd's fault.
If it doesn't load, check if the cios is correct, then assume it's the hdd's fault.

I am new to the whole wii hacking, but I bought the same disk today and have the same problem. If I start USBLoaderGX with the HDD connected it does not detect my HDD, it just freezes. However, if I start USBLoaderGX without the disk connected and I connect the drive when USBLoaderGX starts counting down, it does recognize the HDD and I can play my ehhhhh back-up files. If somebody has a solution to this problem please advice as it is quite annoying having to connect and disconnect the HDD.

It might have something to do with the HDD having two partitions. The WD Passport HDD come standard with two partitions.

Lol just reformat your damn drive, its not gonna break anything. Anyways I have personally tested the 1TB WD Passport Essential SE usb hard drive, and it will not work with NTFS partitioned drives with the Wii. I've got a Seagate and a Toshiba that work just fine NTFS, but this drive would refuse to work with the latest version of CFG loader. Just reformat it FAT32.

did you make sure t o use the bottom (left) port

is your usb loader on an SD card or a USB device?

You need ios updates rite across the board ."LEAVE IOS30 ALONE" the rest need to be updated to play new games.Use http://filetrip.net/f12050-NUS-Downloader-1-5a-Beta.html (you will need a key.bin and kkey.bin to be able to decrypt) 1st click on Extras and in the drop menu click on Update database once that is done click on Extras again but this time click on "Emulate wii system update" for your region this will create a script to run. Before you load the script you need to make sure Pack-> WAD is checked now click on Extras again but this time click on "Load NUS scrpit" NUS will auto download all ios's you need. Make sure you have a copy of http://filetrip.net/f11391-WAD-Manager-1-7.html and use cIOS 222 to install wads if it does not work then install cIOS236 to use.
You will need the following wads to be put on your SD card in your "wad" folder
IOS9, IOS12 ,IOS13,IOS14,IOS15,IOS17,IOS21,IOS22,IOS28,IOS31,IOS33,IOS34,IOS35,IOS36,
IOS37,IOS38,IOS41,IOS43,IOS45,IOS46,IOS48,IOS53,IOS55,IOS56,IOS57,IOS58,IOS61,
IOS80

I had a problem like this ended up being my SD had some bad sectors so scan your sd for bad sectors if you find any and it makes a found folder take all your files off and reformat your card to try and fix errors
