Game Developing Studios could start using multiple .dol files, like the case of Call Of Duty 3...Not saying that this would solve all nintendo's problems, but it would shy people away from USB Loading...(but steer towards disc backups!) lol

they'll probably try and update the drives firmware so it'll not recognise backups

The latest Wiis have that firmware, it can't read backups by software. Which also means, no flatcable mod will read backups on them as they work the very same way as the cIOS.

But i don't think nintendo can update the drive's firmware after it was sold. If they could, then hackers might also do it.

would be good if you could then it would be like the Xbox360's just flash a new firmware and all games would work from the disk channel without cIOSCRAP

I think that nintendos best response for there next console woul dbe to adopt sonys stance and actively support homebrew with limitations of the hardware that is accesible like th PS3, if you think about it sony have ultimately nailed the anti piracy thing because as far as im aware there is no way off launching what you guys like to call backups on a ps3 I belive this to be because of the active support that sony have for homebrew as if the wii had this then people like team twiizers would not e looking for exploits and could happily go about coding there true homebrew apps, and where would the wii scene be without them? anyway thats just my 2 cents

huh?

the point im trying to make forgive me iv had a few cans is that by actively supporting homebrew sony have managed to keep the ps3 largely unhacked in as much as there aren't modchips available etc, if nintendo had of done this would team twiizers and the rest of the homebrew only coders developed apps such as the homebrew channel or bothered to extract the common key???

It's not necessarily supporting homebrew that gave them invulnerability. The thing has a processor that's entirely dedicated to making sure the system isn't compromised in any way.

exactly not only that you would have to crack the hyper visor to make ps3 linux worth a shit anyways
wink.gif
ive looked into it i have linux on my ps3 and its very much LIMITED you dont have access to all the ps3 hardware by a long shot but if the hyper visor were cracked
wink.gif

Also its not for lack of effort even the psp scene can tell you dark alex has looked into it and to no avail the ps3 will be a tough cookie!? have a look not much out yet for brew...

fair enough I wasn't aware of that part, I just think alot of people will be put off hacking it if they can openly do what they want with it anyway, im not sure what the limitations of homebrew on the ps3 are as I dont own one but I still believe it to be a good stance taken by sony in there support for homebrew!

If Nintendo wants to stop piracy they should have built a system that wasn't so full of loopholes. The fact that any idiot with an SD card can hack their Wii to do nearly anything is astounding. I mean, that's one of the reasons I like the Wii, since I don't need to pay for many games, but Nintendo cannot stop the rampant piracy as it is. The Wii will forever be known as probably the easiest system to pirate on.

Better luck next time, Nintendo.

I'd argue that the Dreamcast took that honor (and with it the demise of SEGA in the hardware segment). The idea that a special disc format would make you immune to piracy is laughable, burn the downloaded image to disc and then you are done, no chips, no cIOSes, no exploits, just burn disc and play.

Just finished looking through my old Dreamcast binder for console ROMS to port onto my USB drive for the Wii. There were a lot of great emulators written for the DC. The MAME one was the best.

Too bad SDLMame has such extreeeeeeeeeeeme loading times and bugginess. I'd love to see a great MAME emu on the Wii.

well the world takes all kinds and even if a console actually embrased ALL open sourced code on a console (some handhelds do just that) it would not stop the creation of emulators that arguably go hand and hand with rom piracy or programs to run backups to keep the integrity of the originals would not be made knowing full well that they would be abuse even IF they were to allow open source people do not have the ethical basis or rather can not afford to have the ethical attributes in most cases this is a result of our lovely monetary system

CORPRATOCRACY RULES THE WORLD! muhuhuhuhahahaha hell PIRACY/CRIME is a direct result of money

you learn that in sociology class. but this vid tells the whole story if you have the time to listen..http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7065205277695921912# see what i mean check that video out

The reason why the PS3 is still unhacked for PS3 backups is that the Cell CPU has one core devoted to monitoring all the others and making sure that they aren't getting fed arbitrary code. If it were a separate chip then this would be much easier to circumvent but since it all happens inside the same CPU it is nearly impossible to do anything about it...

nintendo cant do any thing.
hackers are expert.

If they are adamant, they can find a way to hinder our fun. I would suspect that one of the things we would have to look forward to would be a behind the scenes "upgrade" that will limit the use of the USB ports. This can be done in software on a driver level. Probably create some sort of signing scheme to give USB port access. At least this is one of the things I would have done to protect my assets.

I gotta agree with this. Still too much shovelware on the console and not many killer titles...

Nice av by the way.

I think Nintendo's only chance to stop piracy is to individually go to every Wii owners home and smash their Wii. Otherwise they'll just have to watch their precious console get raped by piracy over, and over...

Two Japanese guys: "Wii would like to play"

Haha

I would guess that the only reasonable way to prevent piracy would be to encrypt the living shit out of any major path inside the system - perhaps something like the damned Trusted Platform Module. Oh, and implement the functions correctly. That kinda helps.
