i think not having the dvd playback feature is a good thing. most dvd playback features in the past consoles have been real glitchy & they eat at your system's life. it's bad enough that you're playing games for 3 hours straight and your system's heating up but when you use it to watch dvd's, too? that's like overburn. i had a dvd burner on my pc and i used to burn dvd's, games & music all the time... every 3 days i'd burn something to watch or play, every 2 days i'd burn a cd for my car... then i started trying to burn anything at all and it wouldn't work. i'd always end up wasting my cd's because they'd burn 20% and then it'd stop burning and bring up some error. so think about it this way, if you were working @ say mcdonald's and your job was to be in the kitchen but your boss decides to keep throwing more hours on you and you have to start scrubbing the washrooms, wouldn't you be a little overworked? you'd feel like shit and get sick faster. same situation with your system, it'll be overworked and break down faster... or atleast, that's my opinion.

I guess, nintendo never build a console with DVD playback over last history so it really JUST a game console.

Nintendo should just release a dongle to allow playback. I'm all for my stuff costing less because I don't want to play DVDs, but I can understand why people would want to replace their DVD player with a Wii to save space or something similar.

The Nintendo DS didn't have a "UMD"-player or anything of the kind...

@ adgloride: Yeah the DVD-players in the consoles get the job done but nothing more.
