So I just bought and got my Nintendo Switch Today. It's brand new but on 4.1.0. I blocked updates with DNS, I also turned auto updates off. But is DNS blocking really necessary? Auto update block is already an option on settings. I want to check out eshop and stuff. Will it auto update if i go to eshop with dns set to auto for awhile?

There’s really no point in staying on firmware below 5.0. Atmosphere cfw will be out this summer and is going to work on all firmwares

i have read all post, and that is not true if you read the recomendations, they said that it would be more easy to hack on that version than 5.0 even if is true that it can be hacked

While thats true, you will be looking at a hard mod to get cfw whether you stay on 4.1 or update to 5.x so no harm in updating.
The main benefit of being on 4.1.0 is that we have more exploit chains than f-g that work for it. We can simulate a coldboot on up to 4.1 without actually having a coldboot vulnerability; we haven't spent time being able to do that on 5.x yet.
OP, I'd stay at 4.1.0, you'll get things sooner than 5.0+.

He won't 'get things sooner' it'll just be harder to hack on 5 but that will be an option at the same time. Just depends on the OPs priorities at this time and his openness to taking on a more difficult process to install CFW. Ultimately their call.

Actually, if you read the quote she says they're not able to simulate coldboot on 5.x as of right now, that doesn't mean it will be ready for release. So technically, as of right now, 4.1.0 will have coldboot simulation and 5.x doesn't. I don't see how you can say 4.1.0 won't have certain things sooner than 5.x because AFAIK Kate didn't guarantee coldboot simulation on 5.x by release.

What does simulation have to do with anything? 4.1-5.x have coldboot via simple hardmod right now. Even kate said that the hardmod is preferable to software-only so whether or not that becomes available later doesn't make a big difference (unless you are absolutely against opening the Switch in which case stay on 4.1)

Since you can't do anything usfull online with your Switch, delete the internet settings and all is fine.
(You can't update games, you cant use eShop, you can't play online. So why to risk, that a system update will be downloaded and install?)

short summary for pre-Mariko units:
1.0.0: has a nice non-coldboot solution, and is the most likely to get a Holy Grail CFW-launching exploit in the future
<3.0.1: has enough power to avoid a hardmod immediately, even if you'll probably want to just do the hardmod 'cuz the hardmod's so easy
<=4.1.0: will eventually see a hardmod-less solution, but will need that 'minor hardmod' at launch
>4.1.0: that 'minor hardmod' is required; though we may find a solution to avoid this in the future
Went through her posts, I didn't see this one from yesterday. My bad.

And after rereading the previous quote I posted, the simulation of coldboot without the coldboot vulnerability on 4.1.0 but not simulated on 5.x was referring to other exploits, not Fusée Gelée.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.
