Citron, an Android adaptation of the Yuzu Nintendo Switch emulator, has unveiled version 0.5, enhancing performance and compatibility. This update, arriving less than a month after the previous release, addresses Vulkan rendering issues, leading to more efficient game visuals and includes specific fixes for Samsung device drivers. Additionally, the user interface has been refined to offer better performance monitoring.

Preliminary tests indicate that games previously plagued by graphical glitches and crashes now operate smoothly without the need for configuration tweaks. Check here for the compatibility list. Notably, Citron has reverted to identifying itself as a "Nintendo homebrew" emulator and maintains a strict anti-piracy stance, likely to mitigate potential legal challenges from Nintendo.

Users interested in exploring Citron can download the latest Android build from the official website or the Git page. A Linux version of version 0.5 is anticipated soon. While Citron is derived from Yuzu, it distinguishes itself as an advanced fork, though individual performance may vary based on specific devices and configurations.

It doesnt really matter if they refer to themselves as being against piracy. The original Yuzu source has already been court ordered to be removed. So chances are this won't exactly last after it becomes known.

Well not hosting it on soyboy corpo sites like GitHub is a good start

Opensource code can never get rid off even by court. Only the exact version they were working on that hadn't been uploaded.

Call me ignorant but where are all of these state of the art android devices running these demanding ps3 and switch emulators. I need to get my hands on one.
You know you can type that into Google, right? ODIN 2 seems to be a popular choice. For PS3... ROG Ally or any 6800u/7840u handheld.

As long as I have a working Switch, I don't need a handheld that can emulate it, so I'm getting an RG556 for it's ergonomics and its beautiful screen (for retro gaming). With plans of throwing some Gulikit sticks in it, if I ever get analog problems with that...

ROG Ally isn't an android based handheld, @handy333 was asking about the recently released aPS3e emulator for android, devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or 8 Elite could be suitable for PS3 emulation (which is really janky right now), but they should be okay for Switch emulation, I have even managed to emulate some simple 2d switch games on my snaprdragon 888 phone

The rg556 can play quite a few switch games as well. It's just that many demanding games drop down to 24fps or so when there's a lot of action on the screen. There are better ones, but with inferior displays. For ROG Ally, not sure what your point is. It runs Windows 11, which has WSA. You can download android games from the Amazon app store, you can sideload apks, and you can enable SVM in BIOS and run bluestacks (if you really want to). Also, the question wasn't worded like it was specifically asking about this emulator. It was about emulating PS3

edit: ok, ok, they did say "android devices".

This emulator doesn't use github so should be safe depending where it's hosted.
it's using yuzu code you can claim it's safe but it's still got a target on it's back. no where is safe from nintAPPLE if it's on the internet they will get to it. the only way to avoid it being taken down is if people go back to the old ways swapping discs or in todays terms USB :glare:

Your quip is outdated. Don't look now, but there are emulators in the Apple app store...

Should Citron strictly be used for games released after the final yuzu version came out? Or have some of the updates helped with games released during the yuzu era?

FYI, WSA is dead.

None that require dynamic recompiling / JIT, which is a really important bit for getting higher end emulation going. Very sad considering Apple doesn't really skimp on performance for lower end models. Not sure if Apple's slimmer review guidelines for attestation for Alt Store PAL and other DMA sideloading is also forbidding this, but that's a lot less people.

Test it. Usually improvements to more accurately emulate newer games should be improvements elsewhere too, but sometimes there's regressions. Not too hard to configure your launcher to pick the better performing emulator either.

strange... citron compiled for steam deck (zen2) not start on my 5600g (zen3). Say
./citron: CPU ISA level is lower than required
how a executable compiled for previous architecture can't run on modern one? strange...

iam talking about linux version... (discord is offline?)
