Hi all, I'm desperate. My Nintendo Switch battery ran out, I started charging it but the battery icon at the top left flashes but won't turn on. it seems to be charged because when the icon flashes the level seems to be at its maximum. I'll post a short video

Which charger do you use? I would ask you to try another Nintendo charger if you've have one. Just to rule out if it's the charger going bad and therefore this odd behavior.

I did.
Hmm, if you got a tri-wing screwbit. Try plugging the battery out and plugging it back in and see if it makes any difference. You need to open the Switch so becareful. Use an Ifixit teardown guide.

I did exactly as you recommended unplugged it and waited a while, but it didn't work. in fact after having tried them all I wrote on the forum

Hmm... you can in theory boot the Switch without a battery and just the charger. But a payload will not be possible to inject if so.
I'm leaning towards the battery is shot personally

Assuming your Switch is hacked, what does Hekate says concerning the battery? It might give a hint on what's going on.

So you can't run Hekate? I would just try to drain the battery completely and then charge it.

Do the following:

  1. Press the power button for around 30 seconds so you manage to shut the console down completely.
  2. After that wait 30 minutes with the console shut off.
  3. Then, connect the original Nintendo charger directly to the Switch and let it charge for at least 4 hours or overnight (ignore if the screens shows it's not charging).
  4. After it charged (or not) redo step one and then see if it finally turns on.
  5. If all fails redo the proccess at least 2 times more until it works.
If all of the above fails i recommend you to borrow a working battery from someone and if that solves it get a new one online, i got this one for my Switch and it works great, it's pretty much identical to the original.

*If testing another battery doesn't do the trick i think your M92 charging IC might be damaged and that requires microsoldering to replace.

Hope you manage to solve it.

expand...

Even if I press for 30 seconds nothing happens, the Nintendo logo starts and then black screen with the battery icon like in the video I can't do anything else.

Even if I wanted to, I couldn't try a new battery, I don't have the skills to remove the current one

Sorry i use Google translate 🥺🥺

The battery is easy to remove. It's glued down so it feels worse than it is. Since we don't know if it's the battery it would be best to just set one in temporarily in the port of the current battery to see.

Try booting your switch while connected to your phone using rekado app. Your phone should charge the switch while it is connected. If your battery is indeed bad this should let you boot your switch since the android phone would supply the power while it is connected.

Does your RCM loader not have a microUSB/USB C connector on the back? Maybe you can connect a charger in there and connect the RCM loader on your switch and hope that it feeds power while booting.

Or try tegrarcm from your PC if you can connect your switch from your PC. Although I don't think the USB port of a computer provides enough voltage to support the switch power requirements.

RCM dongles never provide power to the Switch, the port is only to charge the RCM dongle itself.
